Local Coordinator |
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Phu |
Project Period |
Jan 2022 - Dec 2024 |
Overall Objective |
The main aim of the project is to reduce the use of antibiotic and enhance the knowledge on the use of antibiotic in shrimp farming. Thus, the direct beneficiary are farmers and shrimp processing enterprises. Also, research capacity of the institution and authorities’ management on the chemical use in aquaculture will be strengthened. |
Specific Objectives |
- To evaluate the current situation of antibiotic use in Penaeidae shrimp aquaculture in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. - To determine the withdrawal time and pharmacokinetics profiles of common antibiotics in Penaeidae shrimp. - To investigate the antibiotic resistance and susceptibility of common AHPND bacterial pathogens in shrimp aquaculture. - To apply the pharmacokinetics (PK) parameters of antibiotic and susceptible data base of shrimp pathogens for rationalization of the antibiotic use. - To disseminate the research outcomes and training for farmers, producers and stakeholders on the use of antibiotic in shrimp industry. |
Activities
|
- Investigation the current situation of antibiotic use in Penaeidae shrimp aquaculture in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. - Determination of pharmacokinetic parameters and withdrawal time of common antibiotics. - Identification of antibiotic resistance and susceptibility profiles of AHPND pathogens in shrimp aquaculture. - Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) for effective using of antibiotic. - Training and dissemination |
Outputs |
1. Report on common antibiotics and chemicals use in Penaeidae shrimp aquaculture and handling practice. 2. Database of pharmacokinetic parameters (time to maximum concentration, absorption rate, elimination rate…) and withdrawal time of common antibiotics for rationale application. 3. Isolates of AHPHD strains with toxicological characteristic. Profiles of antibiotic resistance and susceptibility of bacterial pathogens in shrimp aquaculture. 4. Results of challenge test of virulent strains in association with antibiotic. Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) for effective using of antibiotic. 5. Training and dissemination of research outcomes to farmers, local authorities, producers and stakeholders |
